When it comes to getting around Baku, BOLT is one of the easiest ways to get around Baku.
It’s cheaper than taxis, there’s no risk of being overcharged, and everything is handled through the app—so you don’t need to speak Azerbaijani at all.
Even if it’s your first time in Azerbaijan, once you have BOLT, most of your transportation worries disappear.
Here’s my experience using BOLT in Baku, along with some tips to help you make the most of it.
BOLT is a ride‑hailing app widely used across Europe and the Middle East.
In Baku, it’s even more common than regular taxis, and locals use it every day.
What makes it great:
For travelers, it’s convenient, budget‑friendly, and works really well.
Your current location appears automatically.
English is totally fine.
Hotel names, tourist spots, restaurants—most places show up easily.
You can also enter an address if needed.
My personal favorite is Comfort—every car I rode in was clean and comfortable.
If you want the lowest price, Economy works great too.
The price appears before you confirm, so there are no surprises.
You can compare car types and prices at a glance.

The Old City has narrow streets, so if the pin is slightly off, the driver may end up somewhere else.
Zoom in on the map and place the pin carefully.
Some spots don’t allow pin placement, so choose a nearby area where cars can stop easily.
You can use Apple Pay or register a credit card in advance.
Occasionally a driver may ask for cash, but if you’ve already paid through the app, just show them the confirmation.

Once your ride is confirmed, the app shows the driver’s name and plate number.
You can also track the car in real time as it approaches.
Here’s a rough idea of the prices:
Compared to taxis in Japan, it’s unbelievably affordable.
I ended up using BOLT for almost all my transportation in Baku.
Most major attractions are just a quick BOLT ride away.
Baku does have public transportation, but with BOLT, all the stress disappears.
Even if you don’t speak the language or aren’t confident with maps, the app takes you anywhere you need to go.
Use BOLT, and your trip around Azerbaijan will feel smoother, safer, and a lot more fun.
